Two Seriously Injured in Head-On Crash in Sonning
A woman was trapped and freed by firefighters following a brutal two-car head-on collision in Sonning late on Tuesday night.
Fire Crews Rush to Scene
Firefighters from Wokingham and Caversham were called to the B478 near The Great House pub just before 11.30pm. Two Volkswagen Golfs – one silver, one red – smashed head-on near Sonning Mill.
Emergency services scrambled fast. Police, paramedics, and two ambulances along with a rapid response paramedic and ambulance officer from South Central Ambulance Service also attended the crash site.
Woman Trapped and Rescued
Fire crews used serious crash rescue equipment to free the trapped woman. Both she and another seriously injured occupant were rushed to Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading for urgent treatment.
A Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “Crews from Caversham and Wokingham Road stations were called at 11.26pm. They assisted police and ambulance teams with a two-vehicle head-on collision and released one trapped female casualty.”
Investigation Underway, Road Closure Lifted
Thames Valley and Hampshire Roads Policing say the cause of the crash is under investigation. Authorities appeal for witnesses to come forward.
A spokesman said: “The incident is at an early stage, and anyone who saw the collision or has info should contact Thames Valley Police on 101.”
Police confirmed the road closure on the B478 was lifted shortly after 1.30am.
