Seeing the fire’s intensity, TWFRS quickly escalated efforts. Six fire engines, a command unit, an aerial ladder platform, and 34 firefighters were mobilised. Their swift action was crucial in containing the blaze and stopping it from spreading further.

Praise from the Top

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Stewart Nicholson hailed the combined efforts of firefighters, control room staff, and support teams. “Facing freezing temperatures and pitch-black darkness made this operation tough,” Nicholson said. “But thanks to their rapid response, the fire was prevented from reaching nearby woodlands.”

Ongoing Probe into Cause

Northumbria Police and TWFRS are jointly investigating the fire’s origins. A cordon remains in place while they dig into what sparked this damaging blaze.
