Shocking Weapons Haul Found Stashed in Lewisham Park

A routine weapons sweep in a Lewisham park uncovered a stash of dangerous items, including a realistic lookalike gun, a large kitchen knife, and a red claw hammer. The Lewisham Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT), along with local volunteers, made the startling find during a patrol on April 7.

Deadly Weapons Hidden in Park Undergrowth

The police and volunteers combing the park found the weapons carefully concealed in the bushes. A black lookalike gun was poking out from a plastic bag hidden among blue forget-me-nots. Nearby, officers spotted a large silver kitchen knife and a red Amtech claw hammer. The discovery has raised serious safety concerns for local residents.

Lewisham Safer Neighbourhoods Team Speaks Out

The Lewisham SNT, part of the Metropolitan Police, focuses on tackling local crime and anti-social behaviour. An officer said, “Regular weapons sweeps are essential to keep our community safe. The discovery of these items highlights the importance of ongoing vigilance.”

SNT teams work closely with community leaders and residents to crack down on issues like graffiti, disorder, and dangerous weapons.

Community Alarmed by Hidden Threats

Locals expressed shock and fear on social media. One resident shared, “It’s scary to think weapons are being stashed where families come to enjoy the park. Huge respect to the police and volunteers for their continued efforts.” Another added, “This just shows how important these weapons sweeps are. We need to keep our parks safe.”

Ongoing Patrols and Call for Community Help

The Lewisham SNT pledged to continue regular sweeps and urged the public to report any suspicious items. They want everyone to take part in keeping the community safe. If you have any information about the weapons or those responsible, contact Lewisham Police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Local councillor Sarah Marshall added, “Lewisham’s parks should be safe for everyone. We support the ongoing efforts of the police and volunteers in making sure dangerous items are removed from our community.”

The SNT will keep up patrols to deter anyone trying to stash or use weapons in public spaces. Updates will follow as investigations continue.
