Online Road Death Memorial Services to Honour Victims
Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Constabulary have teamed up to offer pre-recorded memorial services for families and friends who have lost loved ones to road traffic collisions.
Services Go Live on World Day of Remembrance
Both forces have recorded separate services dedicated to their areas, set to be available online from Sunday 15 November. The date marks the United Nations World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, observed globally.
Hampshire Service Hosted at Andover Baptist Church
The Hampshire service was recorded at Andover Baptist Church and led by Force Chaplain Reverend Dominic Jones. Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney joined officers from the Roads Policing Unit and other emergency services to pay tribute.
The names of those tragically lost in road collisions will be read out during the service, which will remain accessible online for two weeks.
Road Policing Chief Urges Public to Remember
Superintendent Colin Hudson, head of the Roads Policing Unit for both forces, said: “Tragically, 56 people died on Thames Valley roads in 2019, and another 43 in Hampshire. The pandemic prevented us holding in-person services, but it’s vital to remember those lives lost, support families and recognise the bravery of emergency personnel.
“We encourage the public to join these services online from 15 November and take a moment to remember.”
