Shock as Carphone Warehouse to Close All 531 Stores – 2,900 Jobs on the Line!
End of the Line for Standalone Stores
In a bombshell announcement, Carphone Warehouse is set to shut down all 531 of its standalone stores. The drastic move puts 2,900 jobs at risk as the retailer shifts its focus. Instead of standalone shops, sales will now concentrate within Dixons stores and combined Carphone Warehouse sections.
Closures Kick Off in April 2020
The store closures are set to begin from April 3, 2020. A spokesperson for Dixons Carphone promised the company will “go well beyond legal obligations in financial and other support for all affected colleagues.”
Boss: It’s a Tough but Necessary Move
CEO Alex Baldock admitted this is no easy call. “There’s never an easy time for an announcement like this, but turbulent times demand bold action,” he said. “Customers are changing how they buy technology, and Dixons Carphone must change with them.”
“We’re undergoing a fundamental transformation. This tough decision is an essential step to make our UK Mobile business a success for customers, colleagues, and shareholders alike.”
