Water Chaos in Dartford as Main Bursts – Homes Flooded, Thousands Left Dry
A catastrophic water main burst has wreaked havoc in Dartford, with muddy floodwaters pouring into homes and racing down streets. Thousands of residents were left without water after the major pipe supplying the area gave way.
Two Weeks of Disruption Expected
Thames Water confirmed engineers shut off the water flow around 9.30pm last Sunday. Repair work on the severely damaged main is expected to take up to two weeks, leaving homes parched while crews scramble to fix the mess.
“Thank you for informing us about low water pressure and no water in DA1, DA2, and DA9,” Thames Water said. “Our specialist engineers have now arrived in the area and are working hard to restore your water supply as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused you.”
Residents Rush to Save Cars Amid Flowing Mud
As water and mud gushed from massive holes in the road, residents dashed out to move vehicles to safety. The flooding chaos starkly contrasts with the rest of London and the South East, where hosepipe bans are choking water use amid a severe drought.
Dartford Floods Amid Record-Breaking Dry Spell
While Dartford’s streets are underwater, much of the UK faces the driest July since 1935. Temperatures are set to soar, reaching 29°C next week, intensifying the drought crisis.
South East Water, which serves 2.2 million customers, has already slapped a hosepipe ban across Kent and Sussex starting Friday, August 12, lasting indefinitely. The ban prohibits watering gardens, cleaning cars, and filling ponds or swimming pools.
Water worries are mounting — as one area floods, millions elsewhere fight to squeeze every drop.
