The police force is in mourning after the loss of Police Dog Kai, who died on Friday, October 18, 2024, aged just 7. Kai passed away peacefully with his handler, Chris, at his side, following a tough battle with serious health issues.
Kai’s Brave Fight Against Illness
Kai’s health problems began back in October 2023 when he needed emergency surgery to drain fluid from around his heart and stomach. Despite his struggles, Kai kept working hard, catching criminals and protecting the public. Sadly, his condition worsened over time, leading to his untimely death.
A Bond Like No Other
Chris, Kai’s handler, remembered the early days with his loyal dog. “Kai joined me in 2018 when he was just nine months old. Even though he was young and a bit cheeky, he quickly proved to be a reliable and dedicated police dog. His friendly nature won over everyone.”
Chris added, “We worked side-by-side through the COVID crisis, and Kai even welcomed my running mate, Lucy, into our lives.”
West Yorkshire Police Pay Tribute
West Yorkshire Police have praised Kai’s commitment and bravery. They offered their heartfelt condolences to Chris and everyone who had the privilege of working with Kai. The force said, “Kai’s service and courage will never be forgotten. He will be dearly missed by all.”
