Controlled Explosion Near British Museum After Suspicious Package Found
A suspicious package sparked panic near the British Museum this morning (October 10). Authorities carried out a controlled explosion on Great Russell Street, close to Montague Street, shortly after 8:45 am.
Met Police Evacuate Area as Precaution
The Metropolitan Police rushed to the scene after reports of the package. They quickly evacuated the nearby area to keep the public safe while specialist officers investigated.
Package Declared Safe, Area Reopened
After a thorough inspection and a controlled explosion, the suspicious package was confirmed to be harmless. The police reopened the area, and normal activity resumed with minimal disruption.
Metropolitan Police spokesperson: “On Thursday, 10 October, police were called at 08:43hrs to WC1 following reports of a suspicious package. Officers attended the scene and evacuated the surrounding area as they inspected the package. A controlled explosion was carried out safely by specialist officers. The package was confirmed to be non-suspicious. The area has now been re-opened.”
The British Museum remained open throughout, and officers thanked the public for their cooperation during the evacuation.
