Friends Pay Heartfelt Tributes

“He just can’t be dead, can he?” said longtime friend and fellow soldier Yan. “We’ve been mates since May 1974 when we joined the battalion together. We shared everything — from operations on Op Banner to late-night celebrations. I’m going to miss you, mate. Life is so cruel. Rest in peace.”

Messages of Sympathy Flood In

James Brown expressed his condolences: “I am so sorry to hear that your father has passed. We had only been texting earlier to try to see each other at the reunion. My sympathy goes out to you all.”

Mr Sainsbury’s family and friends have thanked the public for their support and kind words during this difficult time.
