Lucky Escape for Cowes Couple After Fridge Sparks Fire
A Cowes couple got lucky when a faulty fridge sparked a fire in their home on Tuesday evening. Their smoke alarm sounded the alert just before 8pm, giving them time to escape unharmed.
Firefighters Race to Scene
Two fire crews from Newport and Cowes rushed to the property after the call came in at 7.50pm. They quickly contained the blaze to the utility room, preventing the flames from spreading further.
Smoke Alarm Proved Life-Saver
The owner had already escaped by the time we arrived,” said an Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman. “The fire was caused by a fault with the refrigerator. The smoke alarm gave the family valuable time to get out safely.”
She added: “Without the alarm, this could have ended far worse.”
