Massive Crash on Rectory Lane Sparks Safety Outcry

A serious two-vehicle collision near Rectory Lane Health Centre on Thursday triggered a rapid response from fire and police crews. The smash has reignited fears over road safety on this busy stretch.

Taxi and Mercedes Collide in Loud Smash

Witnesses reported a “massive bang” as a taxi driven by an older male and a Mercedes carrying several young men and a woman collided. Both cars suffered heavy front-end damage, hinting at a head-on crash. Oddly, when emergency teams arrived, both vehicles were facing the same direction.

“I heard a massive bang from inside my house, looked out and saw two badly damaged cars about 200 metres away,” said one local. “Fire engines and police were on scene within five minutes.”

Thankfully, no serious injuries have been confirmed so far.

Locals Demand Urgent Road Safety Fixes

The crash has brought fresh attention to the long-running problems with dangerous driving on Rectory Lane. Residents say the road is a hectic and hazardous route, made worse when quieter off-peak times encourage speeding.

“This part of Rectory Lane is dangerous,” said the witness. “It’s the only main road here and when it’s quiet, drivers act like boy racers. There are too many accidents, and children cross here daily. It’s not safe – there are no zebra crossings or proper traffic lights except at the top and near Debden Broadway.”

Calls are now mounting for local authorities to install pedestrian crossings, speed cameras, and additional traffic lights to prevent more crashes.

Police Probe Crash, Seek CCTV Footage

Officers continue to investigate the cause of the collision. They urge anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash to come forward and help with their enquiries.
