Taxpayers Fork Out £11 Million to Deport Just 1,356 Migrants in 2022
New Freedom of Information figures reveal the Government splashed £11 million between January and October 2022 to send home migrants with no right to remain in the UK. Since 2020, the total bill for returning unwanted arrivals has soared past £30 million.
Charter Flights Used to Deport Offenders and Failed Asylum Seekers
In just 10 months last year, 54 chartered flights transported 1,356 people back to their home countries. Many deportees were offenders stripped of their right to stay after breaking UK laws. The rest included failed asylum seekers and illegal migrants.
“This is a staggering amount of taxpayers’ money for such little return,” said Alp Mehmet of Migration Watch UK.
Public Confidence in Government Hits Rock Bottom Over Channel Crisis
A new People Polling survey for GB News reveals only 4% of Brits feel “completely” or “fairly” confident the Government can solve the Channel small boat crossings. Shockingly, over half of adults have zero confidence in Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s handling of the crisis.
Stopping small boats is a top priority for Sunak in 2023, but voters remain unconvinced.
Immigration: The Make-or-Break Issue Ahead of the Next Election
Immigration ranks as the third most important issue for all voters – second among Conservatives. Unless Sunak can turn public opinion around, the next general election could be a disaster for the Government.
