Diver Dies After Dramatic English Channel Rescue
On Monday afternoon, emergency crews rushed to the English Channel, south of Cuckmere Haven, after reports of a diver in distress.
Newhaven Lifeboat and Coastguard Helicopter Scramble
Newhaven Lifeboat and Coastguard Helicopter 163 from Lydd were scrambled following an alert from HM Coastguard. The diver was swiftly airlifted to Brighton and taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital.
Tragic Outcome at Royal Sussex County Hospital
Sadly, the man, believed to be in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Sussex Police confirmed the incident, saying:
“Sussex Police were informed by HM Coastguard of a diver having been rescued from the sea off east Brighton at around 2.50pm on Monday. A man in his 50s was taken to hospital, where he was sadly pronounced deceased. His next of kin have been informed.”
