The family returning home were greeted by blaring smoke alarms and thick smoke pouring from their house. They dialled 999 instantly, making sure everyone stayed safe while awaiting the fire crews.

Wearing breathing apparatus, crews tackled the fire, which was partly quelled by a burst water pipe. Despite this, the property suffered significant smoke damage throughout.

Firefighters helped the family salvage precious presents and belongings as they stayed with relatives. Officials stressed the importance of never leaving white goods unattended and always closing doors to limit fire damage.
