Blaze Breaks Out in Eastbourne Flat in Early Hours

Emergency crews raced to a serious fire at a flat on Upperton Road, Eastbourne, just after midnight on Sunday, April 14.

Massive Fire Response

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (ESFRS) received the alarm at 12:23am. Seven fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were dispatched to tackle the fierce blaze tearing through the residential property.

Thick smoke blanketed the street, forcing nearby residents to keep doors and windows firmly shut as firefighters battled the flames.

Fire Under Control But Scene Still Active

By 2:16am, firefighters announced the blaze was out. However, eight fire appliances remained on site to mop up hotspots and check the building’s safety.

Crews are expected to scale back operations during the morning, though emergency services will keep a presence in the area for some time.

Road Closures and Investigation Underway

Authorities have urged the public to avoid Upperton Road while the situation is managed. An investigation into the fire’s cause is set to begin in the coming days.
