HMS Sultan Hosts Thrilling Young Engineers Challenge 2016
HMS Sultan in Gosport came alive as youngsters from across the UK battled it out in the Royal Navy University Training College’s Young Engineers Challenge – Operation Antarctica 2016. The event was a massive hit, with Admiral Sir George Zambellas praising it as “a great day had by all.”
40 Teams Take on Arctic Engineering Challenge
Forty teams competing in this high-stakes contest put their STEM skills to the test. With support from University Technical Colleges (UTCs), Young Engineers, defence giant BAE Systems, and Babcock, the Competition is designed to get young minds buzzing about science, technology, engineering, and maths.
Building Boats to Brave Antarctic Ice
Tasked with designing a boat to navigate treacherous ice flows and transport vital supplies in a disaster relief mission to Antarctica, the youngsters showed real engineering flair. Some even enjoyed a unique overnight stay aboard the historic HMS bristol/" title="Bristol" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Bristol, adding to the excitement.
STEM Careers in the Spotlight
Falling on the eve of British Science Week (11-20 March), the challenge shone a spotlight on how the Royal Navy, UTCs, Young Engineers, and BAE Systems are inspiring the next generation to dive into STEM careers. A perfect storm of fun, learning, and ambition!
