Ryde Lifeboat Launches to Rescue Drifting Inflatable Swan Off Ryde Beach
The Ryde independent lifeboat, Ryde Rescue One, sprang into action just after 5.40pm on Sunday. The UK Coastguard reported an abandoned inflatable white swan drifting about 500 metres off Ryde Beach, heading towards Portsmouth.
Swift Rescue Mission
The lifeboat crew quickly reached the scene, found the rogue inflatable swan, and safely towed it back to shore. Thankfully, no one was onboard the inflatable during the incident. The lifeboat returned to its Ryde base by 6.15pm.
Safety Warning After Busy Start to Summer Holidays
The UK Coastguard took the opportunity to issue a safety message following what looks like a busy holiday start:
“Blow-up toys and airbeds are designed for pools, not the sea where they can be easily swept out. If you use them at the beach, ensure they are closely supervised, stay near the shore, use them only between the red and yellow flags, always follow lifeguards’ advice, avoid big waves, and never use them when red flags are flying. Red flags indicate offshore winds that will blow inflatables further out to sea.”
Beachgoers are urged to stay vigilant and keep safety front of mind while enjoying inflatable toys this summer.
