Tragic Death on A21 Near Sevenoaks Shuts Road for Hours
Kent Police have confirmed a man found injured on the A21 near Sevenoaks died at the scene. The grim discovery was made on Monday, 7 December 2020.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Police were alerted at 4:10pm about an injured man on the northbound A21 bypass. Officers and the South East Coast Ambulance Service arrived swiftly but sadly pronounced him dead at the scene.
Kent County Council Highways also attended. Both northbound and southbound carriageways were closed as the investigation kicked off.
Road Closures Cause Major Delays
The southbound lanes began reopening at 9:15pm, with full southbound access restored by 10pm. The northbound carriageway stayed shut until around midnight.
Police Conduct Thorough Investigation
Chief Inspector Mark Stubberfield of Sevenoaks Community Safety Unit said: “Patrols had to close both carriageways to ensure emergency services were safe while carrying out a comprehensive investigation into this tragic incident. The delays were unfortunate but necessary to identify witnesses and complete a full forensic examination so we can submit a detailed report to the coroner.”
Officers are working to notify the deceased’s next of kin as enquiries continue.
