QEII Bridge Shut Amid Ongoing Incident
The QEII Bridge remains closed as emergency teams work together to resolve a serious situation. Traffic was forced into a contraflow through the tunnel during Monday’s hectic evening rush hour to keep vehicles moving across the river.
Closure to Continue Through Rush Hour
Police warn the bridge closure will last through tonight and into Tuesday morning’s peak commute. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and find alternative routes wherever possible to dodge heavy delays.
Police Chief Vows Tough Action
“We understand how frustrating this is for people trying to use the bridge,” said Chief Superintendent Simon Anslow. “But we’re doing everything possible to resolve this quickly and safely.”
“The situation is complex because of the height involved. National Highways, who manage the bridge, have deemed it unsafe to reopen right now.”
“Anyone endangering lives or causing selfish disruption won’t be tolerated. This incident has a huge impact on the local community.”
“Thanks to the public for their patience. Our priority remains clear — to keep people safe and Essex moving.”
