Community Heroes Save Baby’s Life

Parents Matthew and Jennifer Blandford from Totton are eternally grateful to the passing strangers who sprang into action. Teddy’s cardiac arrest happened while he was out with his mum Jennifer and grandma Cheryl. Before ambulance crews arrived, it was the rallying community and a paediatric nurse who kept him alive.

Matthew said, “I was in shock and couldn’t even speak to the wonderful ladies who gave Teddy immediate first aid. All I wanted to know was if he was still alive. We are so grateful to the public who stepped in during this terrifying ordeal.”

Meet the Lifesavers: Sue, Mel and Natasha

Sue Simpson, a St John Ambulance first responder, was among the first on the scene. She shared, “I haven’t stopped thinking about Teddy since. I was proud to be part of the incredible team that helped keep him alive. I’m overjoyed that he’s making it.”

Mel Macaulay, who arrived alongside her friend Lily, added, “This baby boy and his family are fantastic. I haven’t thought of anything else since, and this has made my entire year.”

Paediatric nurse and midwife Natasha Wrann also played a crucial role in Teddy’s care, ensuring he survived those first critical moments.
