Tragic Death After Train Hits Person Near Royal Wootton Bassett

A person has died after being struck by a train close to Royal Wootton Bassett this Easter Sunday.

Emergency Services Rush to Scene

Shortly after 2.30pm, emergency crews were called to reports of a casualty on the main railway line near Junction 16. Around ten police vehicles, two fire engines, an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, and the Great Western Air Ambulance responded swiftly.

Line Shut Between Swindon and Chippenham

The casualty was found at the scene and sadly pronounced dead on arrival. The train line was closed in both directions between Swindon and Chippenham while investigations took place.

Mystery Over Missing Dog Found Nearby

In a strange twist, the body of a missing Rottweiler named Nala was found nearby at about the same time. It remains unclear whether the dog’s death is connected to the fatality.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks near Swindon. Paramedics attended, but sadly the person was pronounced dead at the scene. This incident is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
