Shotgun Attack on Goshawk Nest Sparks Police Probe in Strathspey
Police Scotland is hunting for info after a shocking attack on a protected bird of prey nest near Loch Gynack. On Saturday, June 8, 2024, officers were tipped off about an active Goshawk nest found under suspicious circumstances in a forest close to Strathspey.
Deliberate Damage to Nest Confirmed
Investigations with RSPB Scotland confirmed the nest was deliberately targeted with a shotgun. Experts from Kincraig Highland Wildlife Park used X-rays to examine the damaged nest and broken branches, revealing the extent of the attack.
Wildlife Crime Officer Urges Witnesses to Come Forward
“All birds of prey are fully protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981,” said Police Constable Daniel Sutherland, Highland and Islands Wildlife Crime Liaison officer. “Harming or killing them is illegal. We urge anyone with information to step forward.”
