Princess Anne Unveils Restored HMS Hood Bell

Princess Anne has unveiled a historic relic from the depths of World War II. The restored bell from HMS Hood, the legendary battlecruiser sunk in 1941, is now proudly displayed at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth.

HMS Hood’s Last Echo

The bell was recovered from the seabed last year, giving a tangible link to the fateful moment when HMS Hood was struck by a shell from the German battleship Bismarck. Today also marks the 75th anniversary of that tragic day.

New Exhibition Launched to Remember Naval Heroes

Following the unveiling, Princess Anne officially opened the NMRN’s brand-new exhibition, 36 Hours: Jutland 1916, The Battle That Won the War. The exhibition dives into the fierce Battle of Jutland, one of the most pivotal naval clashes in history.
