Reform UK Dumps Three Candidates Over Offensive Comments
Reform UK has dropped three of its candidates after offensive remarks came to light. The party leader, Nigel Farage, is already boycotting the BBC, accusing the broadcaster of bias.
Farage Slams BBC: “Dishonest Question Time Audience”
On Saturday, Farage took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce his BBC boycott. He refused to appear on Laura Kuenssberg’s show until the BBC apologises for what he called “their dishonest Question Time audience.” Farage blasted the broadcaster as a “political actor” during the election and vowed, “Reform will be campaigning vigorously to abolish the licence fee.”
Farage also shared photos claiming several Question Time audience members, including a BBC director, were placemen – a charge the BBC has denied.
Candidates Disowned but Remain on Ballot
The three axe victims are Edward Oakenfull (Derbyshire Dales), Robert Lomas (Barnsley North), and Leslie Lilley (Southend East and Rochford). Farage distanced himself sharply, saying, “I want nothing to do with them.” Despite this, all three will stay on the ballot papers due to late timing.
Farage Targets Channel 4 Following Offensive Candidate Remarks
Farage has also accused Channel 4 of trying to sabotage Reform UK after a reporter caught one of the party’s canvassers making offensive comments. Channel 4 denies bias but a formal complaint has been filed over electoral interference.
