Teams from Newhaven, Littlehampton, and Shoreham have joined forces with a Coastguard helicopter from Lee-On-Solent. They’re battling choppy seas and powerful winds reaching 60 mph.

A 999 call came in shortly before 4pm on Wednesday, 12 April, triggering the swift operation.

Coastguard and Police Coordinating Search

“HM Coastguard’s Newhaven, Littlehampton, and Shoreham Rescue Teams, alongside shore and Newhaven RNLI all-weather lifeboats, Sussex Police, and the Coastguard helicopter from Lee-On-Solent, are coordinating a search for a possible person in the water at Brighton Palace Pier, following concerns raised shortly before 4pm today (12 April),” said a Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesperson.

The race is on against the clock as crews fight tough weather to bring someone to safety.
