Heartbreaking Hunt for Missing Toddler in French Alps Enters Third Day
Rescue teams are battling rugged terrain and soaring heat as they desperately search for two-and-a-half-year-old Emile, who vanished from a tiny hamlet in the French Alps. The toddler disappeared on Saturday while staying with his grandparents in Haut-Vernet, a remote village of just 25 residents perched 1,200 meters up.
Hope Still Alive as Search Shifts Gear
Local prefect Marc Chappuis vowed on Monday: “We’re not stopping the search; we are not losing hope.” After 48 grueling hours scouring the area, teams are now honing in with specialists and forensic experts while interviewing locals again for fresh clues. The site has been sealed off to outsiders to preserve the integrity of the investigation.
No Sign of Foul Play Yet, Police Say
Prosecutor Remy Avon admitted investigators are puzzled. “All possible explanations are on the table; we’re not favouring any, and we’re not ruling any out,” he said. While nearby homes have been thoroughly searched, two empty properties remain untouched. So far, there is no evidence to suggest any wrongdoing.
Volunteers Rally in Massive Search Operation
- Hundreds of volunteers have joined the hunt, combing the fields and forests for any trace of the missing boy.
- “We spaced out about two metres apart, looking for the smallest clue—maybe a lost shoe or item of clothing,” said 19-year-old helper Roxane.
The harsh environment complicates efforts — uneven, stream-cut hills under a relentless heatwave with temperatures reaching 34°C (93°F) on Tuesday. Emile was last seen wearing a yellow top, white shorts, and hiking shoes. Authorities continue to share his photo, hoping someone spots him soon.
As the search trudges into its third day, hopes remain high that Emile will be found safe and swiftly reunited with his family.
