Yellow Wind Warning Hits Wales and Southern England

A yellow wind warning is in place for Wales and southern England, with the wildest gusts expected in the southwest. Coastal areas could face gusts of 50-60mph, while inland winds will reach 45-50mph.

Strong Winds to Lash Southwest from Thursday Afternoon

The alert kicks in at 3pm on Thursday and lasts until 9pm Friday. Expect travel delays, potential damage to outdoor temporary structures like tents and marquees, and some tree damage in affected areas.

Heavy Rain to Soak Northern Ireland and Scotland

Alongside the fierce winds, a low-pressure system moving from the west will unleash heavy rain across much of the UK. Thursday’s downpours will hit Northern Ireland, southern Scotland, northwest Wales, and northern England hardest, with up to 60mm expected. Rain and wind will persist into Friday before the weather gradually improves.

Chief Meteorologist Dan Suri warned, “The low pressure system moving in from the west is going to bring some heavy rain across much of the UK from Thursday and into Friday. With wind looking to be strongest in southern coastal areas, as well as Wales, there’s a chance of some disruption to travel plans and potential damage to temporary structures, such as tents and marquees.”

Weekend Showers and Cooler Nights Ahead

The storm will clear by Friday night, leaving behind a mix of showers into the weekend. However, there’s a silver lining.

Dan Suri added, “There are some glimmers of hope in the forecast into next week, with more settled weather possible from Tuesday. In areas of prolonged sunshine, we should be seeing some quite pleasant conditions, but night temperatures will continue to stay stubbornly low.”

Temperatures are expected to climb next week, bringing warmer days but still cooler nights than usual. For now, batten down the hatches – the UK’s weather rollercoaster is far from over.
