Fire Rips Through Electrical Substation, Thousands Evacuated
Flames Damage Substation Ground Floor
A blaze tore through the ground floor of a two-storey electrical substation, sparking chaos in the local area. Around 100 people had to be swiftly evacuated from a nearby depot, while 1,500 college students were rushed out from behind the substation.
Firefighters Battle Tough Conditions
Station Commander Colin Digby, who was on the scene, praised the crew’s efforts. “Firefighters worked hard in challenging conditions to bring the fire under control,” he said. The fire sparked power cuts affecting some 4,500 customers in the area.
Rapid Response from Multiple Fire Stations
The Brigade sprang into action at 12:48pm, getting the fire under control by just after 4pm. Fire crews from Shoreditch, Bethnal Green, Shadwell, and Plaistow were all deployed in the operation.
Investigation Underway
Authorities are now probing the cause of the fire. An update is expected once findings are released.
