Man Found Dead Near Oakwood Hill Industrial Estate
Essex Police were called to the scene near Oakwood Hill Industrial Estate at around 11:55 am on Saturday, 15 October, after the body of a man was discovered. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Met Police Take Over Murder Investigation
The Met Police have now taken charge of the investigation following initial inquiries. Officers were originally alerted at 1:51 pm on Friday, 14 October, after reports of two people missing from a property in Ebony Crescent, Enfield: a man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s. The pair were known to each other and last seen the previous night.
Officers worked hard to locate the missing couple before the man’s body was found in Loughton. Detectives believe the man found dead is the missing man reported from Enfield. A post-mortem and formal identification are planned.
The woman has since been found safe and unharmed. Police are providing specialist support to her and the deceased man’s family.
Three Arrested in Kent Over Death
Three men were arrested in the Kent area in connection with the inquiry and remain in police custody.
Investigation Eyed Possible Kidnap
Detective Chief Inspector Kate Kieran, Specialist Crime, said: “Our condolences go out to the family. This is a complex, fast-moving investigation involving multiple units from the Met and Essex Police.
A key lead is that the man and woman were reportedly taken against their will in a vehicle on Thursday night.”
“I urge anyone in the Ebony Crescent area on Thursday, 13 October night, who saw anything suspicious, to contact police immediately. Check doorbell or dashcam footage—you might have crucial evidence.”
“Police will remain in the Oakwood Hill Industrial Estate area for days as we continue inquiries. We apologise for any disruption due to road closures.”
“Local residents with information, videos, or images helpful to our probe should come forward. We are doing everything possible to bring those responsible to justice.”
Local Police Appeal for Community Help
Chief Superintendent Caroline Haines, lead for Enfield policing, said: “We understand the concern this situation causes. We remain visible in Ebony Crescent offering support. Please speak to officers with any information or concerns.”
“Community help is vital to tackling violent crime. Your information could make a real difference.”
