Haunting Mystery: Teen Vanishes on Isle of Wight Night Out
On a cold, wet night in November 1996, 16-year-old Damien disappeared without a trace in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. The teen was last seen on CCTV leaving a chip shop on the High Street around 11.40pm. Damien then headed towards the Co-op by a bus stop, where several witnesses spoke to him.
Final Sightings on CCTV Before Vanishing
After leaving the bus stop, Damien was caught on camera again walking back past the pontoon entrance. The very last sighting was at 12.02am under a camera opposite an Indian restaurant near Sun Hill. After this, he vanished completely—no CCTV or eyewitness accounts have placed him anywhere.
Family and Police Search Yields No Answers
Damien’s disappearance shocked his family; they launched their own search immediately. Over the years, police inquiries, private detectives, TV documentaries, and ongoing family campaigns have scrambled for answers, but the mystery remains unsolved.
His mother, Mrs Nettles, has slammed Hampshire Constabulary for botching the early investigation. She cites ignored calls for land and air searches, lost vital CCTV footage, and a baffling error registering Damien as an adult, not a child, when he vanished.
Key Suspect and Warnings of Intimidation
In 2016, BBC Three aired an eight-part series Unsolved – The Boy Who Disappeared, revealing chilling new details. Journalists tracked down people rumored to be involved, exposing a suspect who allegedly obtained witness statements and intimidated witnesses.
