A heartbreaking tragedy has rocked a Lancashire nursery after a two-year-old boy died following a choking incident.

Toddler Found Unresponsive at Parbold Nursery

Staff at Parbold Douglas CE Academy Nursery discovered the toddler collapsed on Friday afternoon. Despite desperate attempts to save him, they failed to revive the boy. Paramedics arrived around 2:45pm and rushed him to hospital, but he sadly died later that day.

Wigan Today reported the youngster lost consciousness after choking.

Nursery and Community in Mourning

The nursery described the boy as a “special and much-loved” child and expressed deep sorrow over the heartbreaking loss.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share that a tragic incident occurred at Parbold Douglas Nursery on Friday, September 19. We are distraught to share that a special, much-loved two-year-old child has died,” the nursery said.

They have asked for privacy for the grieving family during this devastating time. Since the tragedy, several bouquets have been left outside the nursery on Lancaster Lane as the local community pays tribute.

Death Not Treated as Suspicious

Police confirmed the toddler’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

The private nursery has previously received praise from Ofsted for providing a “nurturing, home-from-home environment” where children quickly settle and grow in confidence. A 2023 report highlighted the strong relationships between staff and children, with youngsters happy and engaged in their learning.

This tragic event has left both the nursery team and local community devastated as they mourn the loss of a precious young life.
