Drama on Downs Road: Car Crashes Into Hackney Railway Bridge in Early Hours

Crash Sparks Midnight Emergency

Firefighters, police, and paramedics rushed to Downs Road, Hackney, after a car smashed into a railway bridge just after 1:20am on Sunday.

Initial reports claimed the vehicle was on fire and trapped passengers inside. Emergency crews scrambled to the scene amid thick smoke and chaos.

Firefighters Rescue and Clear Scene

Luckily, the smoke turned out to be from the car’s airbags deploying on impact, not a blaze. Firefighters from Homerton and a rescue unit from Euston worked to secure the area.

They used a winch to free the car, which had become stuck in the bridge’s metal Harris fencing.

Passengers Escape Without Serious Injury

Paramedics treated two occupants at the scene. Thankfully, neither suffered serious injuries in the smash.

The early morning horror could have been much worse, but timely responses from London’s emergency services saved lives.
