Woodmill Lane Reopens After Wall Collapse Chaos
Southampton City Council has given the green light for Woodmill Lane to reopen early today, Sunday 23 May, after urgent work stabilised a damaged heritage building’s wall. This has allowed the removal of dangerous propping that forced a health and safety closure.
Road Open… But Only For Now
Woodmill Lane will stay open until the evening of Monday 31 May. After that, it will shut again for about a week as repair work continues. The council urges locals to plan their journeys carefully during these disruptions.
Youth Crash Behind Building Damage
The chaos began when a Nissan Micra, reportedly carrying youths, veered off the road and smashed into a building owned by The SUP Company on Woodmill Lane.
Police have arrested a 14-year-old connected to the crash, with investigations still underway.
More Repairs Ahead
Southampton City Council said: “We’re bringing in specialist contractors to reopen the lane to all traffic and pedestrians safely from Sunday 23 May. The second stage of repairs starts on Tuesday 1 June and will last about a week.”
During this phase, Woodmill Lane will be closed again, with diversion routes in place to keep traffic flowing safely.
