Big Chaos on M11 Southbound as Lorry Blaze Shuts Road
Motorists are in for a nightmare on the M11 southbound after a massive lorry fire sparks a full carriageway closure between Junction 10 (Duxford) and Junction 8 (Birchanger Green), near Stansted Airport. Emergency teams from Essex Fire and Rescue and National Highways Traffic Officers are battling flames and clearing the wreckage.
Emergency Teams Battle Blaze as Smoke Chokes Road
The lorry fire has caused thick smoke and debris to litter the carriageway, causing severe hold-ups. Firefighters are working flat out to douse the flames and get the road cleared, but there’s no word yet on when the M11 will reopen. Drivers are urged to avoid the area and to follow local diversions marked with the hollow triangle symbol.

Frustration Mounts as Commuters Hit Gridlock
Social media is buzzing with trapped drivers venting their fury. One commuter tweeted:
“Stuck on the M11 for over an hour—fire crews everywhere. Hope everyone is safe.”
Local businesses near the closure spots are feeling the pinch too, with fewer customers due to the detours.
