Shock in West Croydon as Man Found Dead Behind Shops on St James’s Road

Body Discovered in Early Morning Discovery

The lifeless body of a man was found early Monday morning behind shops on St James’s Road, West Croydon. Police and emergency services rushed to the scene and remain there as investigations unfold.

The Metropolitan Police revealed officers were called at 9.03am on 7 April after a welfare concern call. The body was located in a yard area off Wellington Road, behind the shops. London Ambulance Service paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The identity of the deceased has not been released, with authorities informing next of kin.

Investigation Ongoing but Not Suspicious

In an official statement, Scotland Yard said:

“Police were called at 9.03am on Monday, 7 April to Wellington Road, Croydon, following a concern for welfare of a man. London Ambulance Service attended and sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His death is being treated as unexpected but not deemed suspicious. The scene remains cordoned off while enquiries continue.”

The police confirmed the death is not currently considered suspicious but have maintained a cordon at the site as investigations carry on.

Community Stunned by Tragic Find

Residents and local shop owners expressed shock and unease. One shop owner told us:

“It’s unsettling to hear something like this has happened just behind the shops. Police have been here all morning, and the area is taped off.”
