Tragic Crash on A30 Near Nether Wallop Kills Two
Two men lost their lives in a fatal crash near the village of Nether Wallop, Hampshire, early Tuesday morning. The smash involved a blue Volkswagen Caddy van and a white Citroen panel van on the A30 near Wallop Drive at about 6:50am.
Fatal Collision Shuts Road for Hours
Police shut the A30 for more than five hours to investigate the deadly collision. The victims were identified as a 63-year-old man from Salisbury, driving the Citroen, and a 58-year-old man from Reading behind the wheel of the VW van. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency crews, including paramedics and doctors, rushed to the scene in a desperate attempt to save those involved. Sadly, two private ambulances left under police escort just before 11am carrying the victims.
Recovery and Appeal for Witnesses
A specialist Hi-ab crane from Williams Garage was brought in to recover one of the vehicles, which had ended up in the tree line beside the road. The single carriageway section of the A30 remained closed during the recovery, with diversions in place for drivers.
The road has since reopened. A spokeswoman from Wilts and Dorset Control confirmed they dispatched two fire appliances shortly after receiving the call at 6:54am.
A Hampshire Police spokesman said: “We are investigating the exact circumstances of the collision and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.”
