M3 Shut After Lorry Smashes Into Bridge Near Frimley
The M3 northbound is closed between Junction 4 and Junction 3 after a large goods vehicle hit the Portsmouth Road Bridge just after 1.30am. The over-height lorry struck the bridge near Frimley, Surrey, causing chaos on the motorway.
Bridge Crash Sparks Full Road Closure
Surrey Police and Highways England shut all lanes following the collision. The lorry shed part of its load, forcing specialist cranes to be called in to offload the cargo. Hard closures were put in place, with traffic diverted at Junction 4a.
Delays & Diversions Rage on as Recovery Underway
With the extent of bridge damage still unclear, huge tailbacks built up as drivers scrambled for alternative routes. A Highways England spokesperson urged motorists to follow the black diamond diversion route and warned the motorway could be closed for several hours for the clean-up.
All Clear As Lorry Recovery Completed
Highways England has since confirmed the lorry has been recovered. The eastbound carriageway and closures have now been lifted, easing congestion for frustrated drivers.
