Police name man found in Basingstoke Canal at Woodham

Surrey Police is now in a position to release the identity of the man whose body was found in the Basingstoke Canal at Woodham Lock on Saturday (15 July). The man has been formally identified as 34-year-old Asif Ali Nawaz of Lockwood Path in Woking. The lock is now fully open but investigations to determine the circumstances that led him to being found in the water are ongoing. Officers are keeping an open mind at this stage. Anyone with information which could assist the investigation is asked to contact Surrey Police immediately on 101, quoting 45170076698. Alternatively you can share information anonymously with the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
