A fierce fire ripped through a three-storey block of flats on Connington Crescent in the early hours, leaving one woman dead and over 70 firefighters scrambling to control the inferno.

Massive Firefighters’ Blitz on Huge Blaze

The London Fire Brigade was called out just after 2am as flames engulfed half of the ground and first floors, plus the entire roof of the building.

More than 70 firefighters, with 10 fire engines and an aerial ladder platform from Woodford, Chingford, Walthamstow, Enfield, and Leytonstone stations, battled the blaze through the night.

Evacuations and Grim Discovery

Thankfully, 12 residents escaped before the brigade arrived. Tragically, a woman was found dead at the scene.

Station Manager Keith Wilson, on the scene, said: “Firefighters have been working hard to contain the spread of the fire which has destroyed the roof. Crews expect to be here into the day, tackling hot spots.”

Cause Still Unknown

Firefighters have made good progress containing the flames but warn work will continue for hours. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
