A brazen thief was caught on camera nicking bags of donated clothes outside a charity shop in Fratton, Portsmouth, last night (Thursday 14th June 2018).
Charity Shop Theft Shocks Locals
A member of the public, who witnessed the theft, told us they were “gobsmacked” at the blatant crime but managed to snap a clear photo of the culprit.
The man was seen driving up and grabbing bags of donations left outside the shop. These much-needed items were brought in by a generous donor supporting Rowan’s Hospice on Purbrook Heath Road, Waterlooville.
Thief Targets Donations Intended for Hospice
On two occasions, the thief was seen approaching the charity shop door, rifling through the bags, and loading stolen items into his car before driving off.
Witnesses labelled the man “scum of the earth” for stealing from a cause that helps vulnerable people. “If he was in need, he could have simply asked for help,” said one local. “What he did was downright disgraceful.”
Community Outraged at Callous Act
The incident has left locals fuming and pleading for anyone with information to come forward. Charity shops rely on donations to survive, and stealing from them hits the community where it hurts the most.
