Stuck Waist-Deep in Mud After Isle of Wight Festival
Three heavily intoxicated revellers at the Isle of Wight Festival found themselves trapped waist-deep in mud along the River Medina in Newport. Their muddy predicament kicked off a frantic rescue operation that lasted three hours.
Massive Emergency Response Scrambles to Scene
Just after 1am on Friday, emergency crews were dispatched, pulling together a massive effort. The Cowes RNLI lifeboat, two Coastguard teams from Ventnor and Bembridge, paramedics from the Island’s ambulance service, and police all joined the rescue.
Heroic Coastal Rescue and Self-Evacuation
Coastguard rescuers used an inflatable walkway and basket stretcher to haul two of the stranded men out of the mud. The third managed to free himself. The trio then sought help from the skipper of a broken-down boat that had ferried them to the festival, sounding the alarm near Island Harbour.
