Romford Man Jailed for Horror Hit-and-Run After Nightclub Row
A violent Romford row ended with a 28-year-old man jailed for attempting to run down a man and woman with his car. Michael Fasan, from Nyall Court, Gidea Park, was found guilty at the Old Bailey of attempted murder and dangerous driving.
Dispute Sparks Deadly Attack
The drama unfolded in the early hours of 19 August 2018 outside a nightclub on South Street, Romford. Fasan asked a woman for her phone number, but she refused, saying she had a boyfriend. Undeterred, Fasan followed her and a male friend to Chandlers Way, continuing to press for the number and questioning the man’s relationship to the woman.
An argument broke out between Fasan and the man. Fasan was overheard saying, “my 1 is Sparks and you’re in my ends”, before jumping into his Ford Focus and deliberately driving straight at the pair.
Injuries and CCTV Lead to Arrest
- The male victim suffered back wounds and a cut finger.
- The woman received minor cuts and bruises.
- Fasan sped off without a care.
Footage of the terrifying incident quickly spread on social media, sparking an East Area Command Unit investigation. Detectives pieced together CCTV clips and social media videos identifying Fasan by his clothes and appearance. The Ford Focus was recovered in Gidea Park, and DNA from Fasan was found on the car’s steering wheel.
Fasan was arrested the next day, charged with attempted murder, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, and no insurance. He was remanded in custody pending trial.
Jailed and Disqualified for 13 Years
On 28 March, Fasan was sentenced at the Old Bailey to 12 years for attempted murder. He also received 18 months for dangerous driving and four months for driving while disqualified, all to run concurrently. The court slapped him with a 13-year driving ban.
Detective Constable Jon Bounds said: “This was a violent and unjustified outburst of anger from Michael Fasan, who intentionally used the Ford Focus as a deadly weapon. It is pure luck neither victim suffered more serious or fatal injuries.”
“Thanks to the witnesses who backed the investigation and helped bring Fasan to justice.”
