Brighton Rapist Jailed for 13 Years After CCTV Banishes His Escape
Brutal Attack on Ship Street
Mahad Hussein, 22, an unemployed man from Tower Hamlets, London, has been locked up for 13 years after raping a 25-year-old woman in Brighton. The horrific attack happened in the early hours of January 15 on Ship Street, where Hussein, whom the victim had met earlier that evening, forced himself on her despite her clear refusal.
Heroic Bystander and CCTV Crack the Case
A passing delivery driver spotted the woman in distress and stayed with her alongside a security guard until police arrived. Thanks to quick police work and sharp CCTV footage, Hussein was identified within days. He was arrested on January 21 and charged with two counts of rape.
Judge Slams Rapist’s “Meat” Mentality
At Hove Crown Court, Judge David Rennie tore into Hussein, saying he treated the victim “like a piece of meat” and showed zero respect for her refusal. The judge added the pervert likely would have gotten away without the CCTV evidence.
Victim’s Bravery Praised Amid Reliving the Nightmare
Detective Constable Jack Sagar called it a “fast-time investigation” where CCTV was crucial. He condemned Hussein for showing no remorse and forcing the victim to endure the trauma again during the trial.
“I would like to praise the bravery of the victim who came forward to disclose the traumatic ordeal she was subject to. She has been provided with support.”
Hussein will now spend over a decade in jail and be a registered sex offender for life. Police urge anyone affected by similar crimes to come forward.
