Late-Night Attack on Festival-Goers in Oxford
Just after midnight on Sunday (June 23), a 34-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were heading home when trouble struck. On Howard Street, a black Audi A3 with tinted windows and silver two-tone alloy wheels pulled up beside them.
Victims Sprayed and Assaulted
Those inside the car sprayed an unknown liquid over the pair. Moments later, five attackers jumped out and assaulted the man. The liquid was harmless and caused no damage, but the victim suffered facial swelling and needed hospital treatment. He has since been discharged from the John Radcliffe Hospital.
Police Hunt Masked Youth Gang
- The five suspects are described as black and Asian males, aged 18 to 25.
- All were wearing dark clothing.
PC Matthew Watson from Cowley police said: “This was a frightening incident for the victims, who were returning home from a music festival.”
“The attack appears completely unprovoked. We’re appealing for anyone who was around Howard Street early Sunday morning who might have seen the black Audi A3 or the assault to get in touch.”
Call for Witnesses and Footage
PC Watson urged witnesses with CCTV or dash-cam footage to contact police immediately on 101, quoting reference number 43190188944.
