Young PC Dives into Bognor Sea to Rescue Struggling Swimmer
A rookie police officer has been hailed a hero after plunging into the choppy waters off Bognor to save a man from drowning. Just 18 months into her career, PC Alice Price acted without hesitation when called to the beach early Sunday morning.
Brave Rescue 100 Metres from Shore
At 6.45am on 21 July, PC Price and colleague PC Shaun Moreland raced to the scene after reports of a distressed man planning to enter the sea. By the time they arrived, the man was already 30 metres out.
Without a moment’s pause, Alice hooked herself to a lifeline and waded into the water. The struggling swimmer tried to swim further out, but Alice kept pace. About 100 metres from shore, she grabbed him, secured the lifeline, and brought him back to safety.
All Safe Thanks to Quick-Thinking Officers
Both were checked over at hospital and thankfully suffered no physical injuries. The man, in his forties and local to the area, is now getting specialist medical support.
“This was great work by Alice, who only joined Sussex Police in 2018, with excellent support from Shaun,” said Superintendent James Collis. “Her courage and their teamwork ensured that a vulnerable man is now safe.”
