New Police Drama ‘Patience’ Set to Shake Up Crime TV

Eagle Eye Drama, the brains behind hits like “The Couple Next Door” and “Professor T,” has wrapped filming on its latest show, Patience. This gripping six-part police crime series is set in the historic city of York and promises a fresh twist on the genre with a diverse cast and a compelling story.

Meet Patience: The Neurodiverse Crime-Solver

The drama centres on Patience Evans (Ella Maisy Purvis), an autistic woman working in Yorkshire Police’s criminal records department. Her sharp eye for detail makes her a vital asset. But Patience is eager to move beyond paperwork and step into the frontline, solving crimes directly.

Detective Bea Metcalf (Laura Fraser) spots Patience’s talent and offers her a chance to join criminal investigations. Their contrasting approaches—Bea’s traditional policing and Patience’s unique insights—spark a powerful partnership. “Patience” explores their evolving relationship, blending work and friendship in a heartfelt way.

Authenticity at the Forefront

“Patience” commits to genuine representation by casting neuro-diverse actors for all neurodivergent roles. Ella Maisy Purvis delivers a powerful performance that challenges stereotypes and celebrates neurodiversity. Laura Fraser highlights the chemistry between the leads, adding depth to their characters’ bond.

Behind the Scenes: Pride and Passion

Jo McGrath, Chief Creative Officer at Eagle Eye Drama, expressed pride in spotlighting a neurodivergent lead in a mainstream crime series. The show’s focus on diversity aligns perfectly with Channel 4’s inclusive vision. Ben Wadey, Channel 4 Drama Commissioning Executive, praised “Patience” for its fresh take on mysteries and neurodiversity.

The series is directed by Maarten Moerkerke (“13 Commandments”) with a writing team led by Matt Baker and autism advocates Stephen Brady, Sarah Freethy, and Daniella DeVinter. It is adapted from the French hit “Astrid and Raphaelle” and co-produced by JLA Productions. Global distribution is handled by Beta Film, supported by the Belgian Tax Shelter.

Coming Soon to Channel 4

Filmed in York and Belgium to capture authentic locations, “Patience” is set to debut soon on Channel 4. Keep your eyes peeled for a crime drama that promises edge-of-your-seat suspense and a fresh, inclusive perspective.
