Four years jailed for over attempted rape in Medway

An intruder who attempted to rape a woman in her home in Medway has been sentenced to four years three months’ imprisonment. Gabriel Culin, 27, of no fixed address, entered the victim’s property in the early hours of 30 August 2019 and sexually assaulted her while she was in her bedroom. The victim fought him off and he fled the scene leaving forensic evidence that linked him to the crime. Culin pleaded guilty to attempted rape and was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday 2 December 2019. Officer in charge of the case, PC Danielle Stanton of Medway Rape Investigation Team said: ‘The victim’s bravery with regard to this case should be applauded. Not only did she fight Culin off during what must have been a terrifying assault, she was extremely courageous afterwards in presenting the strong evidence which confirmed his guilt. Culin’s appalling behaviour has rightly led him to a custodial sentence and I hope this outcome encourages other victims of sexual assault to come forward.’
