Medway Intruder Jailed for Attempted Rape After Home Assault
Gabriel Culin, 27, has been locked up for four years and three months after trying to rape a woman in her own home. The shocking attack happened in Medway in the early hours of 30 August 2019.
Victim Fights Back, Sends Attacker Running
Culin, who has no fixed address, broke into the victim’s bedroom and assaulted her. But she bravely fought him off, forcing him to flee. Crucial forensic evidence left behind at the scene linked him directly to the crime.
Justice Served at Maidstone Crown Court
The defendant pleaded guilty to attempted rape and was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, 2 December 2019.
“The victim’s bravery with regard to this case should be applauded,” said PC Danielle Stanton of the Medway Rape Investigation Team. “Not only did she fight Culin off during what must have been a terrifying assault, she was extremely courageous afterwards in presenting the strong evidence which confirmed his guilt.”
“Culin’s appalling behaviour has rightly led him to a custodial sentence and I hope this outcome encourages other victims of sexual assault to come forward.”
