Heroes on the Spot: Officers Race Into Burning Building to Save 92-Year-Old

Off-duty PC Thomas Scourfield was driving back from the gym when he spotted flames licking at a house. Hearing screams, he didn’t hesitate. Scourfield smashed his way inside a blazing building, finding a woman dousing a 92-year-old man with water as he lay on the floor.

Brave Efforts to Rescue Trapped Pensioner

PC Scourfield quickly led the woman to safety before charging back inside to save the trapped pensioner. Meanwhile, Sgt Geraint Jenkins, armed with water-soaked towels for protection, dragged the elderly man from the inferno.

Tragic Ending Despite Heroic Attempts

Officers desperately tried CPR on the man, but sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“These two officers did everything they could to save this gentleman. They put their own lives on the line to respond to an incident that they both happened upon,” said South Wales Federation Chair Steve Treharne.
