Search Intensifies for Missing Llanelli Cockler Darren Rees
The hunt is on at first light for Darren Rees, a cockler reported missing off the coast near Llanelli, South Wales.
Last Seen Cockling at Low Tide
Darren was last spotted on Tuesday afternoon while cockling in the Machynys area during low tide. Concern grew when he failed to return home, prompting an urgent search that kicked off around 6.30pm on 3rd November.
Massive Coastguard and Police Effort Underway
- HM Coastguard is leading the operation, coordinating efforts with multiple rescue teams.
- Burry Port, Llansteffan, and Mumbles Coastguard Rescue Teams are scouring the shoreline.
- Dyfed Powys Police and senior Coastguard officers are on the scene.
- Air support includes helicopters from HM Coastguard at St Athan and local police units.
- RNLI lifeboats from Burry Port and Loughor independent lifeboat have joined the water search.
Volunteers Join the Frantic Land Search
Local cockling community volunteers, guided by Dyfed Powys Police, have combed North Gower, including Pwll, but Darren is still missing. The search will resume on foot at first light.
Peter Bailey, Senior Maritime Operations Officer at HM Coastguard, said: “There has been a search of the entire area and everyone involved has made strenuous efforts to find this missing cockler. We will resume the search later this morning with our coastguard rescue teams and police.”
With no sign of Darren yet, the race against time continues as rescuers refuse to give up.
